Life Story for Robert Spurlock

Robert Spurlock was born on November 30, 1929 in Wallins Creek, Kentucky. He was the fourth child born to George and Sonora Spurlock out of which they had eight children.

In the early 1950’s Robert joined the Air Force it is there he was stationed at March Air Force Base in then Sunnymead, CA now known as Moreno Valley, CA. It was also here he came to meet and marry the love of his life Dolores. They met on a blind date and the rest was history as they say. Robert and Dolores were married on January 10, 1953 at Eden Lutheran Church in Riverside, CA. Robert and Dolores would soon find themselves moving to Colorado as Robert was transferred to Lowry Air Force Base, while there they set up home in Aurora, CO. Robert also did a temporary tour of duty at Brize Norton Air Force Base in England.

When Robert was released from active duty he became an engineer with Lockheed-Martin where he and Dolores lived in Lancaster, CA for several months and the company transferred both of them to Hawaii for a year. After moving back to the mainland, he was hired to work for Raytheon Company in MA. It was through working for Raytheon, Robert and his Family would travel and be stationed overseas for a while. Robert and Family lived in Panama, Italy and Greece as he was site Manager where his work assignments took him. While there Robert and Family were able to visit Austria, Germany, Yugoslavia before it was divided up. When the overseas assignments came to an end in 1968 Robert and his Family came back to the United States to the east coast. Robert and his Family lived in Salem, NH while Robert commuted to the Raytheon office in Burlington, MA. In 1971 Raytheon transferred Robert to the Goleta, CA complex. The complete move to California took place in 1973 Robert and Family lived in Santa Barbara, CA. Robert would remain at the Raytheon Goleta complex until his retirement.

All through Robert’s life he liked to buy and refurbish organs and pianos. Robert was an avid ham radio operator, this gave him such joy. He loved to keep in contact with people all over the world. Another of Robert’s pride and joy was the property he owned in New Cuyama, CA it was his 500-acre paradise. He would love to work and be outside on the ranch it was being out in nature, to him this was God’s country.

All during Robert’s life he was there for immediate and extended family should anyone need help, he was not afraid to lend a hand, he was selfless in his commitment to family.

On October 4, 2018 Robert Spurlock decided to give himself to be with Dolores on her birthday. The transition was very peaceful as their son Richard witnessed.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dolores, his parents George and Sonora and his sister Devodia (Dee) Short. He is survived by his son Richard of Santa Barbara, CA, his daughters Karen and Lisa both of Lompoc, CA. He is also survived by his brothers Ted of Corbin, KY, Bill of Kingsport, TN, Charles of Symrna, TN, and Roger of Murfreesboro, TN. He is also survived by sisters Mary Mink of Lewisburg, TN, and Brenda Moore of Porum, OK. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
