Life Story for
Betty Geer Gibbel
Betty Gibbel was born in San Diego California. The daughter of a military father, she was constantly on the move in her youth. While stationed in Hawaii, she watched the planes as they flew to bomb Pearl Harbor. She met her husband Richard Gibbel at Redlands College and they moved to Hemet after graduating. Betty was a teacher at Hemet High School before stopping to raise her three boys. She was big into education and was elected to the Riverside County Board of Education for 33 years, serving as President several times. She also represented Riverside County to the state of California for Region 19 during that time and had the Betty G Gibbel Regional Learning Center at Mt San Jacinto Community College named after her for her years of service. She used her background in education at her job at EMWD, serving to educate the public in water conservation. Her passing was peaceful, free of pain and dignified. She lived a long life, full of experiences and love.
Surviving are sons, Robert Michael Gibbel, John Richard Gibbel and Mark Alan Gibbel, and 8 grandchildren.
