Life Story for
Charley Joel Childs
Charley Joel Childs of Hemet, California passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018, at the age of 70.
He was born on Sunday, August 24, 1947 in Hemet, California to Charles and Alida Childs. The Childs family dates back to 1912 in the Hemet Valley.
He played football and graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1965.
Charley acted in several main roles such as Jose, Yank Carter, and Sheriff Merrill in the Ramona Pageant throughout the 1960’s, also an excellent example of his horsemanship.
In his early years, he worked as a Rancher on an apricot farm and as a cattleman with his father in Hemet.
He then moved on to proudly becoming an officer for the Hemet Police Department. Later, he became an insurance agent and manager for Calfarm Insurance Co. for more than 20 years.
He had a love for his dogs and the great outdoors. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter.
His artistic abilities shined through his leatherworking, creating many beautiful pieces from saddles to belts.
Charley is survived by his two sons, Charley "Chuck" Childs, Troy Childs, and 5 grandchildren. He loved his family and will be missed.
A graveside service will be held at the San Jacinto Valley Cemetery, 2555 S. Santa Fe Avenue, San Jacinto on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10 a.m.
