Obituary for
Joseph "Joe" Z. Hernandez
Joseph Z. Hernandez, beloved husband of the late Lucas M. Hernandez, passed away on Wednesday June 13, 2018 at the age of 88 at his home in Murrieta, California.
Joe was born December 10, 1929 in San Marcial, New Mexico. He grew up in Socorro NM. He attended Socorro High and was on the basketball team. He later was drafted and served his country as a medic in the Korean War.
When he returned from Korea in 1952, he proposed to and married, Lucas, his wife of 65 years.
Together they moved to Riverside, CA to start their life together. He attended La Sierra College and took theology as a major. While in college he worked as an orderly and also had a landscaping job on the side, in order to provide for his wife and growing new family.
After he finished college he became a Seventh Day Adventist minister and worked for Southeastern Conference, pastoring churches in Chino, Barstow, Brawley, Indio, and Redlands California. He was also pastored churches in Arizona and Texas.
They moved back to their beloved New Mexico where he was a pastor and eventually retired.
In 2007 the pair moved back to California to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and playful and fun grandfather. Above all he was devoted to serving God and mankind.
Joe is survived by his daughters, Nina Thesman Her husband Dana,Tina Dixon her husband Jim.
Grandchildren: Jennifer VanCleef, her husband Billy, Stephanie, James, Ashley Mcallister her husband Ryan, Tiffany, Erik,Taylor and Courtney.
Great Grandchildren: Savanah, Billy, Joshua, Aiden, Jacob, Brodie and Piper.
Great- Great Grandchildren: Roman and Jax.
Services have been entrusted to Miller-Jones Mortuary, Murrieta, California.
